Take Control of your Carbon Footprint with Healthy Home

Healthy Home is a system that allows a user to manage their home’s energy-carbon-emission equivalent via wifi plugs that upload emissions data to both the Healthy Home Hub and the user’s smartphone in real-time. This system was designed as a potential solution for both students and faculty at the University of Michigan to comprehend and control their carbon footprints.

Before creating this system, I observed how other smart devices, such as Google Home and Sense, connect users with their appliances. I found, however, that none of these products effectively inform users how their smart appliances perform from a sustainability perspective. Additionally, my experience with living in various forms of university housing led me to envision a non-invasive product that would be accessible to renters and homeowners.
